Is Your Nail Salon a Hot Mess? 4 Common Ways You're Disorganized

In my last post, you learned how being unorganized negatively impacts your nail salon. Longer wait times and poor reviews are just a couple of the ways your salon can be jeopardized.

But what exactly are the common areas of your business operations affected when your salon is unorganized? From marketing your salon to scheduling staff and processing payment, a number of your business operations are affected without proper organization in place.

Read on for 4 areas of business that will be affected if you’re not taking the necessary steps to get your nail salon organized and in tip-top shape.

1. Marketing and Advertising
When you’re not organized, your marketing and advertising will fall apart, especially when it comes to your online presence. Unlike print ads and direct mail which go out once, your website and social media pages need to be updated on a regular basis. Make sure that you are posting regularly to your Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages. And once you have your website developed, don’t think that your work there is done; if your salon hours change, for example, update your website to reflect this change (as well as any other changes). And always remember to keep your site up-to-date with info on current promotions and photos of new seasonal colors, designs, and trends.

2. Scheduling and Supplies
You can easily overbook your salon if you don’t have your technicians’ schedules correct. Scheduling may have been simple when your salon first opened, but now that you have hired more technicians, you can easily get overwhelmed if you’re keeping track of schedules on paper. Ordering and managing your supplies is another major task when running a nail salon. If you don’t have a streamlined process in place to track supplies, you can easily order too much of one product when you’re running low on another.

3. Payment Processing
If you’re unorganized with processing payment, all kinds of mistakes can be made. If particular policies are not in place (such as whether to accept checks or certain credit cards), your salon could be losing money. If you don’t know how to properly use your payment processing machinery, you could be costing your clients (and yourself) time. If you are using outdated technology, you could be taking time away from other important matters. Bottom line: Taking payment should be quick, simple, and error-free. If it’s not, you need to reevaluate your systems and procedures.

4. Client Work
When all of the other elements above are not organized, your technicians’ work itself can become affected. Staff members may be unable to focus and concentrate on each client as fully as they should because other issues may arise that need handling. And when a nail technician’s mind if not where it should be—on the client—client requests can go unanswered, mistakes can be made, and less-than-stellar manicures and pedicures are performed.

As you can see, being disorganized can lead to chaos in many—if not all—of your business operations. Now that you know how disorganization affects your salon, it’s time to take action and get organized!
