How to Attract More Customers to Your Business with a Holiday Theme

October 16, 2015 Amy Cross

The holiday season starts…now! It’s time to get going on your holiday-themed marketing to make sure your company benefits from the huge spike in shoppers. The holiday shopping season has been starting earlier than ever before, which gives you a good amount of time to run your seasonal promotions - but you need to get started now to reap the benefits!

According to a recent report from Google, “48% of holiday shoppers said they did the majority of their shopping on or before Cyber Monday, and ¼ said they did some shopping before Halloween.” In other words, shoppers are looking for discounts and deals now.

And this holiday season is shaping up to be especially great for businesses. The NRF is forecasting an increase of 3.7% in sales this holidays season. “It is significantly higher than the 10-year average of 2.5 percent. Holiday sales in 2015 are expected to represent approximately 19% of the retail industry’s annual sales of $3.2 trillion.”

While it can be overwhelming (and time-consuming) to think about holiday marketing along with everything else that goes into running a business, the good news is that a little creativity goes a long way, and it can all be based on a theme.

Having a holiday theme specific to your company is a great way to start, and it ignites seasonal-specific promotional campaigns and brand awareness.

Not sure where to start? Ask yourself what the positive feelings of the holidays can mean for your company. If you are in the services business, your people are your product. Connect the value you and your staff give to your customers with one of the many cheerful and warm messages from the holiday season.

Once you have your holiday theme set, use it until the end of the year!

Here are some fun ideas on how to incorporate your holiday theme into your marketing efforts for the coming months:

  • Create a unique graphic that incorporates your theme (or add the theme elements to your logo). It can be used with every holiday promotion.

  • Turn your theme into a #hashtag and use it with holiday-specific posts on social media. This will encourage your customers to join the conversation and engage with your brand.

  • Use your theme on all of your print holiday marketing materials, like postcards, coupons and brochures. This could be the unique graphic mentioned above, the way you describe your products and services in relation to the season or customer testimonials in the holiday spirit.

  • Have specific discounts connected to display ads that use your theme. Content is key here, so make sure your discounts are related to what your theme is all about.

  • Start a holiday-specific blog series where you reference back to your theme in all posts. This creates a constant flow of content that ties specifically back to your theme.

Having a strong holiday theme that captures the essence of your business is a powerful way to start your seasonal marketing. Using a theme to unify your holiday happenings can be incredibly effective and helps clients instantly distinguish your business from the competition.
