Up Your Business' Social Media Game with Instagram Stories

Just as you were figuring out how to master Snapchat, Instagram went ahead and bit their style with the new feature added to their app. Allow me to introduce you to Instagram Stories.

Much like Snapchat, Instagram has learned the value of temporary content, and allows for users to post a bunch of pictures and videos onto their platform, all which disappear at the end of the day.

Have you seen that little “add Story” button at the top of your Instagram? When you got to your home screen, it looks a little something like this:

Many of the bigger brands (Time Inc, CNN) immediately saw dollar signs with this new add on and are quickly capitalizing on the stories feature. Instead of relying on the photos you’ve painstakingly curated and set up the perfect caption for, you’ll be able to tell the story of your business with a variety of pictures and videos that can showcase the unique personality of your small business.

Unlike creating a new account with Snapchat, you won’t have to create a new following from scratch. All of your current followers will have instant access to all of your stories.

So, time for the million dollar question...why should you care?

As a small business owner, using Instagram Stories could really help increase engagement with your customers. The more engagement you have with your customers, the greater the relationships

you're cultivating with them. Customer loyalty is the foundation of a successful business, especially when it comes to fighting off local competition.

Just a 5% increase in repeat customers helps to drive up your profits by 95%.

You want your customers to constantly be thinking about you, and social media outreach has become one of the most effective forms of communication.

Here are a few easy ideas to get you started on Instagram Stories:

  1. Take pictures of your customers before and after getting services at your  business
  2. Take videos of your employees enjoying and working hard for your customers
  3. Take your followers on a virtual tour of the inside of your business
  4. Take fun and quick testimonial videos
  5. Invite your customers to check out your new promotions and specials  with video clips

The possibilities are endless and guess what! You can download your favorite posts, if you choose to, so even though they'll disappear from your Story feed, you can always post them again onto your Instagram page. Just make sure you download it and it’ll be saved to your library.
