Small Business Marketing Mistakes

In today’s day and age, there are so many ways to market your small business. With the constant emergence of technological innovations, businesses are able to reach a broader audience--fast. However, this doesn’t mean that every business knows how to leverage this technology properly. We’re here to show you four common small business marketing mistakes --and how you can fix them. By turning around these mistakes, your small business will know just how to attract the right customers in order to keep things running smoothly.

1. Small Business Marketing Mistakes - Lacking an online presence

A recent study found that 97% of consumers searched online for products and services before buying them. This means that if your business is not searchable online, you’re losing out on precious customers. By creating a website, your business will be able to generate revenue online and at your location, while also accumulating new customers. Then, you can use your business’ social media accounts to direct more traffic to your own website.

2. Small Business Marketing Mistakes - Assuming a product/service will sell by itself

You may sell an array of awesome products and services, but don’t rely on customers to notice these goods on their own. If you think one of your products or services rocks, let your customers know by creating special promotions and deals. When you market for these specific products and services, your customers will realize how great they are--and then the selling will take care of itself.

3. Small Business Marketing Mistakes - Marketing without a target audience

You may have the best marketing plan around, but if you don’t know who your audience is, your strategy will be largely ineffective. Try investing some time in figuring out who your audience is, and create marketing strategies that target them specifically. By creating audience-specific marketing campaigns, you’ll be able to accumulate more engaged and responsive customers and therefore, more revenue.

4. Small Business Marketing Mistakes - Failing to Research Competitors

Chances are, you aren’t the only business on the block. By researching your business’ competitors, you can gain insight on which of their business techniques generate revenue--and which ones don’t. You can even take a look at competitors’ marketing techniques so that your business can generate better, more innovative strategies. Monitoring your competitors will keep you on your toes when it comes to marketing effectively and uniquely.
