Summer is coming into the home stretch.
If you’re a spa or salon manager who typically experiences a lull while everything else is heating up, you may have spent some of your downtime these past few months doing a business assessment and planning for upcoming busier seasons. Hopefully, your business review revealed some tangible opportunities that will take your business to the next level.
If you’re still in the throes of your assessment, however, you might want to take a few minutes to review some of the topics we explored this summer.
Is your schedule filled with eraser marks and whiteout; your Rolodex getting more dog-eared, and your current software freezing up despite the blazing temperatures outside? You may want to consider a software upgrade that can help you run your business better. Ideally, software should help you manage several critical facets of your business, such as bookings, customer profiles, point of sale, inventory, and employee information and compensation.
For most spas and salons, selling products is the real money-maker. That’s why it’s essential that you conduct monthly, accurate inventory counts. Effective inventory management doesn’t mean you have an overabundance of products – it means you have the right amount of products in the right place at the right time. It’s not too late to set aside some time to get this done. If you do it now, you may be able to weave some of those products into an end-of-summer special.
Wouldn’t you like to know all the touch points you have with your customer: how they booked their appointment with you, what they purchased, and what their favorite services are? If you’re doing this using pen and paper or an outdated computer system, you run the risk of misplacing valuable client information and not making the critical links among your customers’ preferences, your staffing decisions, your appointment bookings, and how much inventory you buy and stock.
A comprehensive customer profile should document a customer’s staff preferences, the best way to reach them, whether they’re a member of your loyalty program, their favorite skin or hair treatment, and their birthday or anniversary.
Challenges and opportunities abound, but whatever place your business finds itself, we’re here to help! Our Summer Makeover Guide covers all these business strategies and more.
