Most local business owners are running some kind of digital marketing campaigns, but not everyone is fluent in digital marketing lingo. Here are 8 key terms you should add to your marketing vocabulary if they’re not already in it:

  1. Online Presence: Everywhere your business information can be found online.
  2. CTA (Call to Action): A statement of the desired action you want the end user to take.
  3. Conversion: A completed action taken as a result of your marketing.
  4. Remarketing: Following up with consumers who’ve interacted with your marketing before.
  5. Referrals: Prospects directed to your company by current customers or other businesses.
  6. CAC (Cost of Acquiring Customer): How much you have to spend to obtain a new customer.
  7. CLTV (Customer Lifetime Value): How much revenue you expect a customer to generate for your business during their total time with you.
  8. Cloud Computing: Web-based services that store data in the cloud.

Why It Matters: Knowing how to talk about digital marketing will also help you know how to quantify your results and improve your programs so that you get more out of your investment.

[Social Media] 6 Social Media Tips for Small Businesses

Source: Business 2 Community

Everyone knows that having a social media presence is vital in today’s connected world. But businesses often never go beyond posting content and engaging with followers when it comes to social marketing.

These 6 tips will help you take your social media game to the next level:

  1. Use social apps to cross promote your content.
  2. Hyper-local Facebook ads to target customers nearby.
  3. Provide great customer service on your social media pages.
  4. Keep an eye on your competition.
  5. Find the social influencers in your industry.
  6. Steal your competitors' followers.

Why It Matters: While social media was built as a conversation platform and engagement tool, you can use it in so many extra ways to improve your business’s marketing. Content promotion can help you drive more traffic to your website. Hyper-local advertising can bring in extra foot traffic during slow times of the week. Customer service is essential, as followers will often use social media to raise a complaint or issue rather than picking up the phone. Social is also a great way to check in on your competitors, see what they’re doing well or not well, and adjust your own social media program accordingly to give your business the edge.

[Mobile] People Now Spend More Time Looking at Mobile Screens than TV

Source: Social Times

This week, mobile analytics service Flurry release a new report outlining a shift in viewing behavior among consumers. In Q1 of 2012, time spent watching television surpassed time spent on mobile by 59 minutes a day; in Q3 of 2014, time spent using a mobile device surpassed television watching by 9 minutes a day, with an average time spent on mobile per day hitting roughly 3 hours. That’s a lot of small-screen time!

Why It Matters: Mobile must be a consideration for your business in everything you do, whether it’s marketing or advertising to designing a new logo to building a website. Consumers are becoming increasingly inseparable from their mobile devices—so if your business is absent from mobile, you’re much less likely to connect with your target audience.
