4 Ways Spas Can Prep for Mother’s Day

By Denise Prichard

September 1, 2023

Even though it just seems like we just wrapped up Valentine’s Day promotions, spring is just around the corner... can you believe it? And with the dawning of this new season, comes new opportunities to increase revenue with the upcoming holidays. In fact, one of the most profitable days of the year for spas, Mother’s Day, will be here before you know it.

Even though it’s only March, and May 9th seems like it’s way off in the distance, it’s important that you start planning your marketing efforts soon to prepare your spa for the influx of customers that will either be purchasing gifts from your spa or coming in for treatments.

Here are four of our favorite ideas that will help you celebrate all of the moms out there while increasing revenue at your spa.

1. Never underestimate the power of the gift card.

According to a survey conducted by the National Retail Foundation, consumers spent over $2.5 billion on gift cards for Mother’s Day. It’s a safe bet to say that the spa industry could receive a pretty big cut of that pie this year since most moms love indulging in a spa day. Offering shoppers the option of purchasing a gift card for mom is an easy and thoughtful way for them to celebrate mom on this special day. Don’t forget to wrap gift cards nicely and promote them in email, on your social pages, on your website, and in your salon.

2. Create spa gift baskets for mom

Most moms enjoy a great at-home spa day, as well. By creating a basket full of some of your most popular products like lotions, essential oils, and scrubs, you can offer Mother’s Day shoppers a great alternative to gift their moms with luxury. If you want to offer these pre-made gift baskets at a discounted rate, you could even bundle them with a gift card to help offset the costs.

3. Make it a family affair

Any mom will tell you the best part of Mother’s Day is getting to spend the entire day with loved ones. Try creating specials that focus on getting the entire family involved. You could do a “Mommy and Me” promotion that includes facials, massages, or other spa treatments for two that can be done together. Another great idea is by establishing a special Mother’s Day group rate to get mom’s daughters, sisters, mother, grandmother, whoever, all through your spa’s door this Mother’s Day.

4. Use social media to attract shoppers to your spa

Use Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and other social media platforms to run Mother’s Day contests and promote your specials. When running a Mother’s Day-inspired contest, you could create a bundle of products to give away or offer a free service at your spa. People love to win things and offering a prize will encourage your social media audience to check your page out on a regular basis—which can help convert your shoppers into actual clients.
