Why is it that we yoga instructors and studio owners expect students to remember to find us online and follow our accounts? Think about it. A student takes a 60-90 minute class with an instructor and leaves the studio to interact with many facets of their busy lives. Yet somehow, we expect them to remember to take the time to like our Facebook Page.
Although some students will remember to do this on their own accord, it’s far more effective for you to make the first move. Instructors and studio owners: Invite your students to like your Facebook Page. Don’t wait for them to come to you!
Here are three simple, nonintrusive, time-effective steps you can follow to invite students to grow your following on Facebook:
Step 1: Use Your Class Roster
Use your class roster to search for students online. This is the perfect way to gather all of your students’ first and last names in one easy place. Type each student’s name into the Facebook search bar at the top of the page and invite them to connect with you.
Step 2: Send a Personal Message
Once a student has accepted your Friend Request, send a personal message with a direct link to your Business Page and a call-to-action. Since you can only initiate private messages from a personal profile, you will need to provide a link to your studio’s Page along with a direct invitation instructing the student to like your page and WHY they should like your Page. Do you post recipes and practice tips? Do you post playlists and videos? Tell the student why they should be interested in joining you on Facebook. A great time saving tip is to copy and paste the same message and change it slightly for each student.
Step 3: Use the 3-Class Rule
Only invite students to like your Page after they’ve attended your class at least 3 times. This will not only save you time, but help assure that the students you’re messaging are indeed interested in what you have to offer. If they’ve attended your class multiple times, it’s likely that they will be interested in your offerings on Facebook.
By using these three steps, you can begin to increase your Facebook audience quickly and significantly. As instructors and studio owners, we must make the first move and open the door for our students to connect with us.
