Salon Advertising Ideas

Salon Advertising

We both know that you offer phenomenal beauty services, top-of-the-line products, and probably have the most friendly, experienced staff in town – but do your clients know it? You could own the best salon on the planet, but if no one knows your salon exists, what does that really do for you?

Optimizing your salon’s services is certainly important, but getting the word out there should be a major priority. In order for your salon to continue growing you need to nurture it with some tactful salon marketing ideas and a good place to start is to review your advertising practices.  Your advertising strategy is what’s going to help drive more clients through your salon doors.

In this article, we’ll explore four simple but effective salon advertising ideas to ensure your salon’s voice is heard.

1. Encourage Word of Mouth Promotion

Don’t fix something if it isn’t broken. Word of mouth promotion was, is, and will continue to be one of the most powerful and effective means of advertising there is. According to Forbes magazine, “92% of consumers believe recommendations from friends and family over all forms of advertising.” The simple truth of the matter is clients trust their friends’ word more than they trust yours.

So, how can you get your current and loyal clients, to go out there and talk-up your salon to all their friends? Well, you need to sweeten the deal for them. If a happy client comes in with a friend, offer that client a special on her next blowout. Consider establishing a referral system in order to promote word of mouth advertising of your salon. Proving incentives for existing clients to advertise your services is an easy practice to help grow your client base at close to no cost.

2. Create a Facebook Business Page

According to the Pew Research Center as of September 2014 about 71% of all online adults use Facebook. With nearly three-fourths of the entire online adult market using Facebook it’s critical for your salon to advertise itself on this platform.

There is an easy solution for you to advertise on Facebook – create a business page. Creating a business page on Facebook is absolutely free. With a Facebook business page you can advertise your salon through text or images which are then seen by your Facebook community. It’s a great way to get the word out there.

If you feel that creating a page is just not enough and you want your advertisements to reach an even larger number of Facebook users, you have the option for advertisement or post promotions. Facebook advertisements or post promotions are targeted. So, for example, anyone who shows interest or ‘likes’ beauty industry related pages will be shown your advertisements. This advertising service is useful; however, unlike the business page you do have to pay for these promotions, but it’s an advertising idea your salon might find worth it.

3. Advertise on Local Listing Sites

When new potential clients search for salons in your area to get a quick cut, you want to make sure that it’s your salon’s name they find. The days of the giant yellow phone books maybe behind us, but these directories have taken to the digital age and hold a major presence online.

People use popular listing sites such as Yelp to find all types of businesses these days. So, you want to make sure that your salon is listed on local listing sites in order to get your companies name out there. People using local listing sites are searching to spend their money, so paying to promote and advertise your salon on a local listing site is a smart and effective way to drive additional awareness and potential new customers to your salon.

4. Create a Salon App

We live in a new age – a mobile age. According to an article released by the Huffington Post last year, “if you aren’t optimized for mobile you’re ultimately losing sales.” No truer words have ever been spoken. People constantly have their eyes glued to their phones, so that’s obviously where you want your advertisements to be.

In today’s mobile market you need more than just a mobile friendly web page, consider implementing a branded mobile appointment app for you salon. A salon app is a great way for you to advertise your salon’s services to the expanding mobile customer.

Your branded salon app will not only help build your salon brand and recognition, but will allow your advertisements to be visible at all times. With the implementation of a salon app, you’re advertising your business to clients on the train, waiting in line for coffee, picking up the kids from soccer practice, wherever.

The Bottom Line

Just like any head of hair, an advertising campaign demands your attention and your own personal flare. Advertising can be a tricky practice, but if you consider encouraging word of mouth promotions, creating a Facebook page, advertising on local listing sites, and/or creating a salon app you’ll quickly see how much growth an effective advertising campaign can bring to your salon and client basis.
